I generated a few ideas, but stuck with  a city environment based around an asset pack (Epic Games, Inc, 2022a).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/elebenstead.2021.hulldesign.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/image-23.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/elebenstead.2021.hulldesign.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/image-23-1024x446.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5317\"\/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">I have downloaded the City Environment asset pack while it was free for one month.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>I have drawn up a mind map around this idea and included some visual effects that could be used within the sequence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/elebenstead.2021.hulldesign.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/Mood-Board.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/elebenstead.2021.hulldesign.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/Mood-Board-1024x245.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4452\"\/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">A mind map of the ideas surrounding the City VFX cutscene, with the different types of particle effects I will be using.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The type of sequence I will be doing is a video game cutscene of a character walking through a city landscape, as they search for their target, i.e. a boss fight that takes place soon thereafter. The character I will be using is Murdock from Paragon (Epic Games, 2016; Epic Games, Inc, 2022b).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/elebenstead.2021.hulldesign.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/image-24.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/elebenstead.2021.hulldesign.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/image-24-1024x456.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5320\"\/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The asset pack for the character I will be using for the sequence.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-large-font-size\"><strong>Storyboard<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To get started on planning, I drew up a digital storyboard on how the sequence will play out, what time each shot will be, and the types of camera shots, visual effects and sound effects would be in the animation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/elebenstead.2021.hulldesign.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/image-27.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/elebenstead.2021.hulldesign.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/image-27.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5349\"\/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">I&#8217;ve created a storyboard of the frames that that the sequence will follow.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-large-font-size\"><strong>Animatic<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I put together a quick 60 second animatic showing the scene as it&#8217;s supposed to be roughly mapped out. The scenes are very similar to what was shown in the storyboard but with some colour added to the frames.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-video\"><video controls src=\"https:\/\/elebenstead.2021.hulldesign.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/Animatic.mp4\"><\/video><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-large-font-size\"><strong>Inspirations<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The first inspiration comes from the first few scenes of Dead Rising 3, where the player character is walking around an apocalyptic setting, discovering the zombie infested city he is in (Capcom Game Studio Vancouver, 2014; NameslessDreadx37x, 2014).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe title=\"Dead Rising 3 - Story\/Cutscenes - Opening (Part 1)\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Ke6ThW3Dr80?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The second inspirations comes from this scene in Metal Gear Rising: Reveangence before the Blade Wolf boss fight, as Raiden is walking through a hallway before being interrupted (Merta, K., 2014 ;PlatinumGames, 2014).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe title=\"Scene 9\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/jzcUfeElf9s?list=PL6c7jk4KwaEUTNz7G913IOOS2RgAdLQu0\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The final inspiration comes from Metroid Dead&#8217;s boss intro cutscene to this fight, as Samus is walking further into the boss arena (Boss Fight Database, 2021; Mercurysteam &amp; Nintendo EPD, 2021).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe title=\"Metroid Dread - Experiment No. Z-57 Boss Fight\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/W_EAOfbFTKo?start=54&#038;feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:clamp(24.034px, 1.502rem + ((1vw - 3.2px) * 1.663), 40px);\"><strong>References:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Boss Fight Database (2021) <em>Metroid Dread &#8211; Experiment No. Z-57 Boss Fight <\/em>[Video] Available online: https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=W_EAOfbFTKo&amp;t=54s [Accessed 18th December 2022]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Capcom Game Studio Vancouver (2014) <em>Dead Rising 3 Apocalypse Edition<\/em> [Video Game] Capcom.
