I did this due to not relying on any foliage asset packs and increasing originality of the project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/elebenstead.2021.hulldesign.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/image-100.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/elebenstead.2021.hulldesign.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/image-100.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6935\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>By adding a random node, I was able to manipulate the position of the grass and get a clean result with some minor tweaking to the node for a better result.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/elebenstead.2021.hulldesign.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/image-102.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/elebenstead.2021.hulldesign.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/image-102.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6939\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>I saved the mesh as an FBX and imported the foliage into Unreal, disabling its collision in the process. The grass is lacking colour and the wind effect, so I wanted to capitalize on it next.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/elebenstead.2021.hulldesign.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/image-103.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/elebenstead.2021.hulldesign.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/image-103.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6941\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>I followed MattsCreative&#8217;s method of applying the wind to the foliage (2014) so the mesh wouldn&#8217;t be static and look out of place. After that, I dragged it into the foliage paint tool to see if it worked before adding more around the landscape.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/elebenstead.2021.hulldesign.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/image-104.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/elebenstead.2021.hulldesign.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/image-104-1024x353.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6947\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/elebenstead.2021.hulldesign.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/image-24.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/elebenstead.2021.hulldesign.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/image-24.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7094\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>For the trees, I have used another software called TreeIt (Tree It, n.d; Laley, 2022) and&nbsp;created one for each of the outdoor environments to reflect the landscapes. The first one is a normal-looking tree that will fit the tundra landscape.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/elebenstead.2021.hulldesign.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/image-27.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/elebenstead.2021.hulldesign.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/image-27.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7645\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>I have added the same wind effect to the leaves for them to sway in the wind and added the asset as a foliage to place around the map.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/elebenstead.2021.hulldesign.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/image-34.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/elebenstead.2021.hulldesign.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/image-34.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7323\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Next up, I have created a tropical-esque tree specifically for the island environment and made sure to select the right textures for the stem, branches, and leaves to feel immersive to the players.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/elebenstead.2021.hulldesign.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/image-9.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/elebenstead.2021.hulldesign.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/image-9.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7454\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>I replicated the same wind process with the masked leaf textures and merging the tree parts into one actor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/elebenstead.2021.hulldesign.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/image-10.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/elebenstead.2021.hulldesign.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/image-10.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7456\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>I made sure to check around the island landscape again just to enhance a few things, mainly placing the rocks down in a few areas to give the environment more character.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/elebenstead.2021.hulldesign.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/image-92.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/elebenstead.2021.hulldesign.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/image-92.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6913\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>I extended the tundra landscape, painting the landscape more and improved it by using the same terrain tools.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/elebenstead.2021.hulldesign.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/image-25.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/elebenstead.2021.hulldesign.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/image-25.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7625\" style=\"width:527px;height:368px\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/elebenstead.2021.hulldesign.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/image-27.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/elebenstead.2021.hulldesign.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/image-27.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6371\" style=\"width:606px;height:312px\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/elebenstead.2021.hulldesign.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/image-10.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/elebenstead.2021.hulldesign.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/image-10.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6561\" style=\"width:497px;height:333px\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/elebenstead.2021.hulldesign.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/image-29.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/elebenstead.2021.hulldesign.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/image-29.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6377\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>I also used vertex painting by using some two-tone mesh painting on the rock meshes (Laley, 2017).
