The first thing I needed to do was add some walls to the subway section. This included the station platforms and the corridors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/elebenstead.2021.hulldesign.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/image-39.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/elebenstead.2021.hulldesign.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/image-39.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5639\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The next step involves importing the blockout into Unreal. I applied an Automatic UV to save time before exporting each island in its own FBX. I made sure to do this in its separate directory for better organization. I also made sure to name the two meshes to not get confused which one is which, and to make this a whole lot easier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/elebenstead.2021.hulldesign.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/image-152.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/elebenstead.2021.hulldesign.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/image-152.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6166\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/elebenstead.2021.hulldesign.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/image-109.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/elebenstead.2021.hulldesign.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/image-109.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6966\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>It&#8217;s just as simple as dragging the FBX into Unreal and scaling the mesh to be accurate to an average person.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/elebenstead.2021.hulldesign.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/image-50.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/elebenstead.2021.hulldesign.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/image-50-1024x499.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5666\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>I jumped back into Maya and selected the rest of the areas with cubes being placeholder geometry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/elebenstead.2021.hulldesign.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/image-55.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/elebenstead.2021.hulldesign.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/image-55-1024x488.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5680\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>I went back and improved a little more, adding some walls between the airport and subway sections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/elebenstead.2021.hulldesign.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/image-54.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/elebenstead.2021.hulldesign.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/image-54.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5676\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/elebenstead.2021.hulldesign.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/image-123.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/elebenstead.2021.hulldesign.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/image-123.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6068\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>I had a problem with selecting specific faces within the blockout as they would not be selected when clicked. It was only when dragging multiple faces that they become highlighted, which wasn&#8217;t ideal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-video\"><video controls src=\"https:\/\/elebenstead.2021.hulldesign.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/Selection-Problem-1.mp4\"><\/video><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The issue is that I had some corrupt preferences that caused the face selection to be highlighted in the wrong place, so I had to go into the Maya folder and delete the preferences (Howald, K., 2022; Maya Learning Channel, 2019).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/elebenstead.2021.hulldesign.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/image-153.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/elebenstead.2021.hulldesign.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/image-153.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6179\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>I also added a floor plane underneath the actual floor so that Unreal shows the mesh rather than it being invisible due to the black plane being visible, and I&#8217;ve added a roof to the corridors too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/elebenstead.2021.hulldesign.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/image-154.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/elebenstead.2021.hulldesign.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/image-154.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6183\" style=\"aspect-ratio:1.3;width:445px;height:auto\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/elebenstead.2021.hulldesign.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/image-170.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/elebenstead.2021.hulldesign.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/image-170.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6232\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/elebenstead.2021.hulldesign.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/image-171.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/elebenstead.2021.hulldesign.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/image-171.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6234\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Most of the blockout is fixed. The main thing that needed to be complete was the ceiling in the corridor between the station and airport sections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/elebenstead.2021.hulldesign.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/image-172.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/elebenstead.2021.hulldesign.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/image-172.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6236\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>I assigned lambert shaders to geometry that will apply different textures, starting with the floor separating the main airport building to the terminal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/elebenstead.2021.hulldesign.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/image.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/elebenstead.2021.hulldesign.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/image.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6239\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Reimporting the floor mesh with the changes allowed me to experiment with placeholder starter content textures to test the results.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/elebenstead.2021.hulldesign.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/image-1.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/elebenstead.2021.hulldesign.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/image-1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6244\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>I applied the same process to the airport walls to make the landscape more professional and immersive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/elebenstead.2021.hulldesign.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/image-2.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/elebenstead.2021.hulldesign.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/image-2-1024x522.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6247\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>I downloaded a Quixel texture to see how well this looked, with the result looking clean (VERDE ALPI MARBLE TILE, n.d). I may need to scale the texture down for it to look good (Taylor, 2017).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/elebenstead.2021.hulldesign.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/image-11.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/elebenstead.2021.hulldesign.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/image-11.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6564\" style=\"aspect-ratio:1.1204188481675392;width:447px;height:auto\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/elebenstead.2021.hulldesign.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/image-12.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/elebenstead.2021.hulldesign.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/image-12.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6568\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>I have applied another material to the scene (<em>SEYCHELLES BEIGE MARBLE TILES<\/em>, n.d) to the other floor to complete the main airport floor. I used the floor tiles to decorate the train platforms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/elebenstead.2021.hulldesign.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/image-66.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/elebenstead.2021.hulldesign.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/image-66.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6832\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/elebenstead.2021.hulldesign.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/image-67.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/elebenstead.2021.hulldesign.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/image-67.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6837\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>I have installed two more textures (<em>CONCRETE FLOOR TILES<\/em>, n.d; <em>STAINED CERAMIC TILES<\/em>, n.d), But this time I used it for the station underneath the airport.
