For this week, my focus was mainly gathering the reference images of my assigned assets and hopefully begin modelling them in Maya to put in the team game. I have thought carefully about what appearance the assets will look like, with the assets’ appearance resembling that of early 1900s objects. I have also set up accounts for JIRA and Perforce and are waiting for the rest of my team to set up theirs along with the Unity project. Here are the reference images for the assets I will be making.
Treatment Couch

The one thing I like about this version of the asset is how the supports are in a unusual design compared to the other reference images as they have a bar across the center of each width. That could be one point for me to try and replicate here.

The thing I like about this image is that the headrest supports look detailed rather than just being a cylinder beam that holds it upright. I’m considering taking notes from that point forward in the creation of my asset.

Aside from the previously mentioned points that I would like to attempt to include. This image has a different colour acting as the rubber couch sheets or however they’re called. It’s different from the colourless sheets but I feel like this colour is too common for an asset like this. Nevertheless, I would like to include the blue colour into the asset.
Hospital Bed

What I really enjoy about this design is that you can see the clear definitions of the wear and tear of the asset, like grunges, dust and dirt to signify the abandonment of the hospital bed. The pillow also have this same feature. I would hope to include some of this in the creation of my own version.

I really like the inclusion of the grid-like pattern between the main rectangle façade of the bed. It really gives this some detail. I would hope to implement this feature in my asset.

What I enjoy about this asset is that the bars at the widths of the bed seems to be curved in a perfect 90 degrees so that it feels right and also symmetrical in design with the bed. I hope to include something like that in my attempt.

I love the design of the bed’s main feature here, as the design of the stripes appear to give off that inclusion of ambient occlusion that would make the asset stand out. This is something to keep in mind when I attempt my version.
Pillow

I really like this image because the pillow shows coloured piping that runs along the edges of the asset, blue in this case. This feature is really cool and I hope to implement this into my version.

I adore the messy features on the pillow’s exterior, such as dirt spots and grunges that go with the used pillow. This is something to keep in mind when I’m attempting my version.

The creases are a stand-out feature in this image, as I could show some outlined creases in my asset that I will be developing.
Screen Divider

I really like the addition of the loose pieces of fabric at each width end of the screen divider. It gives off that extra detail that I could take notes of to improve my upcoming version.

This was present on the last reference image, but the wheels and the divider’s supports really interest me into making my own take on it, taking into consideration the scale of the wheel supports too to make it different from this one.

There are alot of different shapes you can achieve in relation to the cloth and this one seems to be straight compared to the previous images that I have gathered. I also like how the supports are different, so that could be a possibility for me to take notes from.
Overbed Table

I like how this table resembles an actual bedside table that would be typically found in a vintage hospital setting like the early 1900s. It really gives off that old feel to it. This is something I could consider, but not definite.

I really like the disused and disrepair nature of this version, mainly due to it being covered by markers and dust accumulating the asset. You can also see the dirt on the edges of the table’s leg, which could give me an insight on how to approach this in my version.

This one would resemble more of a modernized version of a overbed table. The thing I like about it is that the table adjusters seem to be triangle shaped, which I think looks pretty cool to include into my version.
How the rest of the team are doing
Apart from me, the rest of the team have been busy sketching up ideas and building up the prototype within the week. Tony has drawn up some sketches of the hospital layout and some examples of torches to use in the game, Jack has been starting to build the level layout and Max has been busy with the coding, building the foundations for what the game could provide in terms of a playable prototype.
