Post 9: Render Output Part 4

The purpose of this post is to highlight the rendered results of my modelled and textured asset I had done in Maya and Substance Painter respectively. Here are two more assets I have created – the Vending Machine and the Air Hockey Table.

Vending Machine

I tried to to emulate the butterfly and badger lighting methods like I did before on this asset, and the result came out much poorer than previous attempts with the assets I have already shown off. Other than that, it’s a pretty subpar attempt and I wish to do better with the technique.

Like before, I attempted another flatlight approach to how I went about lighting this asset again. With this, you can see the front side better without the background being distracting as I dimmed the lights to be perfect in line with the quality of the render.

Here’s something I never tried before, as I had never thought about the coloured gels method that much until now. I went about this by placing a cream-beige area light to the side closer to the camera, and one or two area lights to the other side to blend the primary color as it illuminates the normal light. Having this makes the asset more pleasing to look at.

I don’t think I’ve tried this before, but I thought about filling the void on the approachable setup. I placed an area light in the same spot and intensified it a bit, facing the table. I also placed a light blocker diagonal across the asset for the light to not give the asset too much in terms of brightness. Again, it’s a pretty good result, but one I could do much better on.
